Tea review: St Johns Breakfast from Olive and Vine

Writer: dstewartdstewart

Tea friend Kim runs Olive and Vine, a specialty store here in St Johns. Since opening, Kim has strived to keep a good selection of quality teas on the shelf. They stock my favorite matcha (Mizuba), classic Chinese and Japanese teas, plus a whole host of flavored teas.

St Johns Breakfast is a blended black tea in the British tradition. The tea blender has created a brew that is equal parts astringence, bitterness, sweetness, and maltiness. The flavor balance is what really impressed me about this tea. A little too mild to stand up to spicy breakfast sausage, the tea works perfectly with more delicate foods and is mellow enough to be sipped on its own. The first and second brew were equally enjoyable. This is a tea you could serve to any blended black tea lover for nearly any occasion. Recommended!
